Sadly, they are no more! All the animals have been moved to other locations, and the fences around & on the property have all been taken down. Workcrews are in the process of tearing down any remaining structures.

No word as to why they closed - or what the land will be used for now.

It's so sad to see yet another of our old stomping grounds fade away!

100,000+ beers later I have a memory of that stable. I believe the name of the person was like Parnell, Pernell, or Percell. I believe first name was Cathy or Kathy... of course over 30+ years later and many cases of beer have fogged my memory.

She never missed a day at school at Hollibrook Elementary through 5th grade. She owned a horse through her parents and it was kept at that stable, and I went there a couple of times to ride with her. That horse scared that crap out of me at the time.... and I bobbed left and right... and almost to the ground everytime I rode it.

I am surprise it has been there that long. If I remember correctly, it was pretty shanty back in the day! :D

I thought she was one of the coolest chicks in elementary.

Now.... if you ask me who the first in elementary school that I kissed..... I have that down! Shannon White, right side of the house, behind the gate to the fence.

It was a peck, but a very wonderful peck! :D

Wow! I didn't realize that the stables were still there. I figured they would have bulldozed them a long time ago. Mike's right, they were pretty shanty even back in the early 80's - probably haven't improved much over the years. Lots of good memories, though.

The property is owned by Kempspring Investments, Ltd. They have owned the property since 2001. I can't find exact evidence of what the property is supposed to be, but I found a lien affidavit regarding some of the acreage in which another company reputed to be an owner is In Town Homes, Ltd. It appears that it may become a subdivision. I have yet to find a plat to support that.

The acreage below the HL&P easement and on the north line of Emnora is now owned by another company, 5177 Builders, Ltd. I guess you all can see where this is possibly going.
Looking at ariel map, there is already a small subdivision on the property, on Hollister just south of Kempwood.

More track homes is my guess on what the stables will become.
It makes me sad. That is my "rudder necking" territory because I love horses so much. I used to take my children there to feed them carrots.
I remember going by there when my oldest son was around thre years old and he said, "Look! There's Back Boody"

I used to go there to pull the old prank of horse tipping. I later found out, after getting no results and kicked a lot, that I had the wrong animal. Stupid me.

I guess it really has been a long time since have been here.

I know this is old but news to me. We kept "Domino" there. I don't know how many times I got thrown there, into the bitterweed. Yuk!

Although my memory sucks, I do actually have memories of the stables as a kid.

Ironically, last year when we were at Tablerock Lake with about 25 other boating family and friends, I met some friends of some other friends we know through boating who all live in Houston. During the week we got talking and discovered this couple grew up in the same area, went to St. Jerome, got married in St. Jerome (late 70's) and to kick it off, his family owned the stables back then. Small world is an understatement.

That reminds me, I told them about GP last year but I haven't seen them in quite some time. I may have to try to make some calls while on the drive down today!

Back to the stables, I'm surprised the lasted as long as they did, but I can't imagine going by and seeing them gone. I hate seeing things like that, especially when it's for commercial development. I don't want to know what things will be like in 100 years. A globe covered in concrete.

Digging u an oldie to ask Jim if you can see if the land has sold recently or if there's some change?

My sister has come across a project to demolish Edgewood Elementary. It appears a new school is planned for the land at Hollister and Kempwood where the stables were. But I'm seeing if she can find more info. to confirm location and whether it's under way. It could be plans and land hasn't been acquired yet. Supposedly a $14mil project.

Yes, I can check into it. I'll check as I have time between working files, bathroom breaks, goofing off, going outside to harass street people, etc.

It appears that all of the land on which the stables sat has been sold to various companys. One of them, Kempspring Investments, Ltd., owns a good portion of the acreage.
Kempspring has sold the 15 acre tract at the southeast corner of Kempwood and Hollister to Spring Branch ISD as of 08-21-09.
If it is to become a school, I hope they clean up all of the old horse s#!t before some kid steps in it and ruins their school shoes. Or they could use it for bases for a kick-ball diamond, I guess.
